Who We Are
SDNE is operated by an experienced professional dog trainer and scientist, who in addition to her work with detection dogs, tracking dogs, and companion dogs, has worked extensively in biological data collection, study design, and project management.
But it's our hard-working canines that make up the heart and foundation of our team.
The Science Dogs
Our canine partners don't just work alongside us; they live alongside us. When they're not working in the field or training for a project, their days are filled with rest, companionship, play, physical exercise, and everything else they need to “just be dogs.”
But by far, their favorite activity is working with their handler to sniff out science and conservation targets. And that’s because the type of dogs that become Science Dogs--- enthusiastic, athletic, highly motivated—are at their happiest when they’re engaging in a job they love.
We’re proud of our dog training program. We use modern, reward-based training methods, and frequently adapt our program to reflect continuing education and emerging science. We uphold high standards for canine welfare in training, caring for, and working with our dogs.

Lindsay Ware, M.S.
Owner, Canine Handler
For over 15 years, Lindsay has been partnering with dogs for conservation purposes and has worked as a professional dog trainer. She is an active conservation dog handler and wounded large game tracker.
Lindsay is also a founding member of the Conservation Dog Alliance, a professional development and networking organization for conservation dog practitioners.
Passionate about wildlife and conservation from a young age, Lindsay earned her B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Unity College, and her M.S. in Biology from the University of Western Ontario. She spent many years traveling the U.S. and Canada working as a wildlife research technician for various government and non-profit agencies, in addition to working as a research & development specialist and biological project manager.
